I found it important to consider the design savvy, media hoof demographic that Mammoth is servicing. The photo of a singer from a local band was to real. It was too much photo this project screamed to be rendered and broken down. I was inspired by the work of Andy Warhol and have always loved the stuff he did with the faces of celebrities in the 60's. I used the colour palette of the posters on the back wall. Slowly but surely the final 3x3 came together. Photoshop is a most splendid tool particularly in this instance I could break away from the realness of the photograph and paint.

The Green Man 1985

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 194px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_87fU4sPMPjA/S5oCP7zOb9I/AAAAAAAAABg/18QL6DRrGlE/s320/DSC_0226.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447669172031877074" />
Another painting hiding away on my fifth form art submission.

The Memory of a Portrait

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 222px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_87fU4sPMPjA/S4RHTNTbfXI/AAAAAAAAABQ/yu_ScPwmwww/s320/DSC_0223.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5441552645084642674" />
What is it about an image that stays in your memory. A single photo or painting can make such an impression on the minds eye it can be recalled over and over. There are certain images through out my life that have captured me.
It was Christmas 1985 when my family returned from the Gold Coast and moved to Taupo. I went to Tauhara Collage and it was a struggle to get settled into my fifth form year. It happened to be these changes in my life that introduced me to a person who delivered faith and helped nurture my creativity. The work I submitted for my school certificate art portfolio reminds me of a endearing relationship with my amazing art teacher Mrs Pointon and still continues to inspire my world.
The portrait has always fascinated me and there were a couple of works submitted on my art folder that are great to look back on. This watercolour and ink is not anyone in particular, as I did not draw it from real life but out of my imagination. I could tell that Mrs Pointon was intrigued by this because with a surprised voice she noted that the subject looked like it had a family resemblance. Isn't it funny the fine details we remember over time? It is the magic of the picture that captures a memory.

Being Captured

I found myself inspired and intrigued by the Y-Artist, Yaniv Janson and his Y-Art: Why now? blog site. His skill with colour makes for a wonderful exploration of the landscape and gave me a sense of freedom and joy. A playful style that instantly put me at ease. It got me thinking... Imagine.
The fact that his artworks are motivated by world wide issues like global warming and climate change is captivating, someone so young yet wise beyond his years... How refreshing, it is the reason to believe in the magic that we all make a difference. Yeah, I thought, I like Y's mission, it seems a positive way to make some noise. Thanks Y-Artist, you've inspired me to get on and be, cause it might make a difference to someone who you least expect.
All the best.

Twenty Ten

The tide edges in so the journey can begin.
Let's set sail in search of adventure in the enormous
sea of change.
